  • What is Functional Mobility Training?

    Functional mobility training is a type of training that focuses on improving your bodies overall function and mobility. It teaches you how to use your full range of motion safely and helps prevent injuries during dance, sports, and daily activities. At ShadowOfaDancer we utilize the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods as our functional mobility training methods of choice.

  • What is Gyrotonic?

    The GYROTONIC® method is essentially a functional mobility training method that uses specialized equipment to support and challenge the body. It improves posture, increases range of motion, minimizes joint & muscle pain, and improves overall coordination.

  • What is the difference between Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis?

    The GYROTONIC® method is done on specialized equipment, whereas the GYROKINESIS® method is done on stools and yoga mats.

  • What kind of clients do you work with?

    Any kind really. Some of our specialties include…

    • Seniors and osteoporosis management.

    • Injury recovery and prevention.

    • Hypermobility syndrome management.

    • Scoliosis management.

    • Cross-training for dancers.

  • Is Gyrotonic for me?

    Yes! The GYROTONIC® method is adaptable to any and all body types and movement backgrounds. While it is extremely poplar amongst the dance community as an ideal cross-training method, most ShadowOfaDancer clients do not have any kind of dance background.

  • Do I really need this type of training?

    While we are a bit biased, functional mobility training is extremely beneficial for everyone because it helps maintain body function as we age. We’ve all heard the saying “use it or lose it”. This type of training helps us not “lose it” and keeps us participating in our favorite activities. Like the parent that wants to keep up with their active teenagers on vacation. A senior wanting to maintain their independence. Or a dancer that wants to keep dancing.

  • What is your cancelation and refund policy?

    More than 24 hours notice is require to make any changes to your session. If less than 24 hours notice is given the session will be deducted from your package or your credit card will be charged the full amount for a single session.

    1:1 members will be charged an Add-on rate if they are out of sessions for the month.

    Single and package purchases are fully refundable for 72 hours from date of purchase. After 72 hours purchases are 50% refundable up to 24 hours prior to the start of your session.

    Used sessions are nonrefundable.

  • What if I am late to my session?

    When booking you are not just booking length of session. You are also booking a particular time. If you are late we cannot guarantee that you will still get the full length of the session you booked. You will still be required to pay the full price of th session. No discounts or refunds will be given.

  • I don't want to put my credit card on file. Can I still book?

    No. We require all clients to have a credit card on file in case of late cancelations. This is a standard requirement most service businesses in the area have. You do have the choice to use a payment method that is different than the card on file when you come in, but a card must be kept on file. Our scheduling platform uses the latest encryption to secure all information.

1:1 Membership FAQ

  • What is a 1:1 Membership?

    A 1:1 Membership is a monthly membership for private sessions. It is great for anyone wanting to maintain consistency in their movement practice.

  • How much do 1:1 Memberships cost?

    Cost is determined by three factors.

    Length of sessions

    Number of sessions per month

    Membership duration

  • What is the difference between memberships and packages?

    The main differences are…

    1. Cost. Our memberships offer our best per session rates.

    2. Billing. Memberships are billed automatically on the 1st of the month for the duration of your membership. Packages can be purchased anytime online or in-studio.

    3. Packages have a 3 month expiration date, which means you have 3 months to use all sessions from the date of purchase. Memberships are monthly, which means all sessions must be used within the month. No rollovers.

  • How do I know if membership or packages are for me?

    Ask yourself “am I the type of person who reschedules or cancels sessions?” If you tend to reschedule then memberships are a great option. But if you tend to cancel then packages might be a better fit.

  • What if I will be traveling and won't be able to use all my sessions in a month?

    As long as you have a recurring session on the books and provide notice at least two weeks prior to the billing date for the month you will be traveling, we will prorate your membership for that month.

  • What are Add-on sessions?

    Add-on sessions are heavily discounted sessions for members only. Let’s say your membership is for 4 sessions per month but you use all your sessions before the last week of the month. You can purchase an Add-on so you don’t have to skip your session during that last week keeping your practice consistent.

  • Does the 24 hour cancellation policy apply to members?

    Yes. If you cancel a session with less than 24 hours notice you will lose the session or be charged an Add-on if you are out of sessions for the month.

  • What if something comes up prior to 24 hours before a session but I have already been charged for the month?

    We will work with you to find a time to reschedule so you don’t lose the session and keep your practice consistent.

  • Why should I have to purchase an Add-on?

    Depending on how the calendar falls some months will have 5 weeks instead of 4. In order to stay consistent you are not going to want to miss a week. The Add-on also allows all trainers to be compensated for their work.

  • If I don't us all my sessions within the month can I roll them over to the next?

    No. We do not allow rollovers. All sessions must be used within the month.

  • Are membership fees refundable?

    No. Membership fees are billed on the first of the month. Once they have been billed they are not refundable.

  • What if I want to cancel my membership?

    Your membership is billed each month automatically on the 1st for the duration of your membership. Either 4 or 12 months depending on what you chose. If you wish to cancel your membership before it has run its course you will be charged a cancellation fee.
